History of the club.
In the spring of 1997 there were about 8 Harley owners on Shoreham Beach, and Alan Davies suggested to Chris Drew and Roger Lywood that we should form a club. Beach Hog had the first ever BBQ meeting at Roger Lywood's house during that summer, and by the autumn there were about 15 unofficial members.
There was then a decision to become an official club and monthly meetings started at the Harbour Club, where jobs were voted on and a constitution agreed.
There were weekend ride-outs to places of interest, evening ride-outs in the summer, and eventually late spring visits abroad. The club mushroomed very quickly, as it became very obvious that for local Harley owners, going to Southampton or Dorking for a HOG ride-out was a bit too far away.
At one time there was talk about restricting membership to keep the club under control. However, as with all clubs, groups of friends were lost at different times. The club has survived despite all this, partly due to making partners joint members. This meant that, from the start, wives and partners were welcomed at the meetings.
Looks like the formula is still working as what started as a very small group of people has now grown to be a club with nearly 50 members from the southern counties of England.
